Dr. LaVerne Barnes, DO, MPH


Dr. LaVerne Barnes is a family practice physician specializing in holistic Family Medicine, focusing on the mind, body, spirit connection. She is also a Health and Wellness Coach and practicing family physician at Family Christian Health Center (FCHC) in Lynwood, IL since 2016 where she wears many hats but currently serves as the Director of Strategic initiatives. Dr. Barnes is also a Speaker, Writer, Teacher, and Transformational coach who help Healthcare Leaders practice total wellness by teaching strategies that contribute to life-work harmony focusing on interactive lifestyle modification including, self-care, mental, physical, and emotional health.

Prior to medical school Dr. Barnes received a master’s degree in public health from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a focus in community medicine and health resources management. Dr. Barnes then received her medical training from Midwestern University-Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2001 and completed a residency in Family Medicine at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County (old Cook County Hospital) in 2004.

Dr. Barnes has held many leadership positions in healthcare including, Chief Executive Officer, Medical Director, Quality Director, and Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Barnes has helped community clinics develop and maintain their quality programs as a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Director. As a result, Dr. Barnes has organized, facilitated, and helped two community clinics obtain the PCMH NCQA Level 2 and 3- certifications. Finally, Dr. Barnes has received certifications in Health and Wellness Coaching, Six Sigma Lean Management, Lean Six Sigma for Healthcare and is a National Center for Quality Assurance PCMH Certified Content Expert.
